Spearhead made of chocolate flint stone, early Bronze Age

The display contains a wealth of exhibits from Świętokrzyski Region, ranging in date from prehistoric to medieval times. The travel over time starts from the Stone Age. We may see there prehistoric stone tools that were used in hunting, breading animals and growing plants. People from that time moved from place to place searching for animals and better places to live. After some time they started to live more settled life. We call this period the Bronze Age. Together with changing the lifestyle of people we may notice development of tools and jewellery art. The collection includes wrought bijouterie, weapons like flint and bronze axes, arrowheads, spearheads and elements of shields. Farm tools are represented by bronze sickles.

A really interesting part of the collection is a treasure dated from the 9th c. B.C. The treasure consists of 18 valuable objects. Their owner must have been a rich man who hid his belongings from robbery.

Between 1st and 4th c. a huge region development took place. Steel became very popular and was made and commonly used all over the region. Tribes from Świętokrzyskie were strongly involved in trade with Roman Empire and we may observe Roman influence on their culture.

Another period of the region prosperity are the Middle Ages. That is a moment when Poland began its existance in Europe. Our museum has a wide range of objects from those times - arrowheads, spearheads, shields, knives, a sword, a sickle, a key, awls and certainly a jewellery - necklesses, elements of different ornamentation, highly decorative combs.

On the display, apart from real artefacts, you may also see numerous boards presenting various aspects of lives of people who used to live in Świętokrzyski Region in ancient times. Pictures show reconstructed scenes of religious celebrations, harvests, making vessels, tools and weapons, as well as everyday activities.
